Istanbul Archaeology Museums: Turkey’s First Museum Complex
Why It Matters
Founded in 1869 by Osman Hamdi Bey, this was Turkey’s very first official museum. Once called “Müze-i Hümayun,” today it’s a huge complex of three parts:

Archaeology Museum: Greek, Roman, and Byzantine artifacts.

Museum of the Ancient Orient: Mesopotamian tablets, Egyptian artifacts, the Treaty of Kadesh.

Tiled Pavilion: Ottoman and Seljuk ceramics and tiles.

Hagia Sophia: The Heart of the City
Built in 537 under Emperor Justinian, Hagia Sophia has been a church, a mosque, a museum, and since July 2020, once again a mosque.
Today, it has two faces:

Upper galleries (History & Experience Zone): Ticketed, with stunning mosaics and panoramic views.

Topkapı Palace: The Heart of the Ottoman Empire
Commissioned by Sultan Mehmed II after the conquest of Constantinople, Topkapı Palace served as the imperial seat for nearly 400 years.
